Introduction
This is a set of wiki pages for the course 'Algebraic Structures' (Algebraiska Strukturer) at Uppsala University in the Autumn term of 2007 (HT07). Course information can be found at Dr. Ernst Dieterich's homepage.
Anyone associated with the class is free to register an account and contribute by editing the material that's already here or adding new material. If you add a new page, please add {{alstruk}} to the bottom of the page so that it appears in the Algebraic Structures category.
Although it looks quite different, this wiki uses the same Wikimedia software as Wikipedia. If you're familiar with editing or creating Wikipedia pages, you can do the same here. The TeX mathematics extension works fine (it was previously broken).
Trivia
I enjoyed Finite Simple Group (of Order Two).
According to the Mathematics Genealogy Project, Dr. Dieterich is a "descendent" (in the sense of PhD thesis supervision) of Leopold Kronecker and none other than Carl Friedrich Gauss. The AMS Collaboration Distance Calculator suggests that his Erdős number is at most 5.
Course Text
The course text, Abstract Algebra, 2nd. ed., Springer 2007 (ISBN 0-387-71567-3), by Pierre Antoine Grillet, was not available in Studentbokhandeln at the beginning of September. On Friday, 28th September, there were 4 copies remaining in Akademibokhandeln at 505,00 kr. each.
No errata are yet listed.
