Intended Audience

This site is aimed at students who have immigrated to Uppsala to study. The University, the Student's Union, the Nations, and your fellow students will look after you very well, but until registration day, you are on your own. If you arrive very early, it can be pretty tough. This site is here to make life a little easier.

When you arrive in Uppsala, you will need:

It's pretty hard to do anything in Sweden without a Personnummer and a bank account.

Pretty soon after you arrive, particularly if your apartment is unfurnished, you will want to go to Ikea.

Surviving Uppsala: The First Few Days is written by a visiting Irish student who stupidly thought it would be a good idea to come a couple of weeks early, but found the University stängt. Uppsala University achieves a state of totality in being “closed for the summer” like nowhere else on earth: in July, there's more life in the average coffin.

Come early, and you are on your own.

I was lucky enough to meet some really friendly people here very quickly, but I think it would be a very tough place for a shy person.
